342m2 Science School comprised of 3806m2 52m X 12.2m six-storey Zoology Block, and the 2268m2 three-storey Geology and 2268m2 Botany Blocks (each 62.5m X 12.1m), University of Canterbury, Ilam Road, Ilam, Christchurch, Canterbury. Zoology Block had two zoology stage 1 laboratories, tank & refrigerated room, drawing office, five stores rooms, technicians workshop, junior technicians work room, technicians room and male & female toilets on ground floor, geography stages 1, 2 & 3 laboratories, technicians work room, map library, dark room, tracing room, two store rooms, two staff offices, secretarys office, museum workshop & store, collection store, glassware room, staff room and male & female toilets on first floor, zoology stage 2 & 3 laboratories, tank room, preparation room, zoology museum with mezzanine floor, dark room, store and male & female toilets on second floor, zoology stage 4 laboratory, zoology & physiology laboratories, glassware & chemical stores, aquarium, vivarium, technicians laboratory, office & store and male & female toilets on third floor, eight lecturers laboratory offices, two research laboratories, five senior staff offices, professors office, professors laboratory, two secretary rooms, reading room, seminar room and male & female toilets on fourth floor, 20 research laboratories, two lecturers laboratories, four temperature controlled rooms, oven & microtomy room, film processing, processing enlarging, study & photomicroscopy rooms, balance room, sterile room, store room and Male & female toilets on fifth floor. Botany Block had stage 1, 2, 3 & 4 laboratories, two preparation rooms, histology microtome & oven rooms, optical store and male toilet on ground floor, two physiology research laboratories, inoculating room and preparation & dark rooms & store, balance room, four controlled growth rooms, six research laboratories, three senior staff offices, professors office, professors laboratory, herbarium & store, seminar room, equipment & plant room, cold room and secretary room on first floor, and mycology laboratory & culture room, nine research laboratories, six lecturers study laboratories, histology oven & microtome rooms, balance room, four dark rooms, autoclave room, algal culture room, reading room, junior technicians workroom, noxious store, chemical store, glassware store, general store and store on second floor. Concrete frame and cladding with concrete roof, precast concrete balustrades to Zoology Block and concrete parapets to Geology & Botany Blocks. 133m2 11m-long 12.1m-wide three-storey link structure between Geology & Botany Blocks had access stairs and male & female toilets on each floor. 15m2 3.2m X 1.6m three-level covered way gave access from the lower three levels of one end of the Zoology Block to the Geology & Botany Blocks link structure. Zoology block structurally complete Christmas 1964 with plasterers working on external finishes. By 2005 Botany & Geology blocks redesignated as Plant & Microbial Sciences block
