Description
In 1891 Southland Frozen Meat Ltd first slaughterhouse was erected at Charlton, a few miles north of Mataura and for six years the carcases were transported by tram-line to the Freezing Plant at Mataura Falls. In 1887 new slaughtering facilities were built at Mataura and the Charlton Slaughterhouse was abandoned.
