History
Zip Water heaters was established in 1930 by Harry Maunders and operated from a showroom in Cuba Street, Wellington. the company produced oversink water heaters, which were known as a " Zip"

In 1953 the company was taken over by Richard Potton who changed its name to Zip Industries Ltd. During this time the company produced its first najor appliance, the famous Zip Kerosene Heater. This was followed in 1960 by the Zip Electriv frypan which heralded the entry of Zip appliances onto the New zealand market.

Zip Wholesalers was formed as plumbing and appliance mercahnts in 1950 with branches in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Nelson.

During the 1960s the company expanded and acquired Hermetic/Cobb Supreme Industrirs, with Huthnance and Steelcase. A controlling interest was purchased by Consolidated Goldfields Pty Limited Australia in 1965, when the company went public.

Odlins Ltd purchased Zip Holdings Ltd in 1976 and by the mid 1980's Zip Holdings operated 28 wholesale merchant outlets from its head office in Petone.

The water heating and appliance manufacturing operations of Zip were sold off to Rheem NZ ltd after Winstone Ltd takeover of Odlins in 1985.

In 1986 Zip Wholesalers Ltd, which operated the merchant outlets, changed its name to Zip Trading Ltd

In 1987 Winstone Ltd was acquired by Brierley Investments Ltd and in 1988 on sold to Fletcher Challenge Ltd.

In 1990 Fletcher Challengedivested the company.

Zip had 20 branches throughout New Zealand supplying plumbing products to the trade. In addition Bathroom retail showrooms.
