In 1976 Fletcher Holdings Ltd acquired 87.5% of GKN (New Zealand) Ltd and renamed it New Zealand Wire Industries Ltd. It was placed under the Industries group. [1]
By 1978 it was in the Wire group.
In 1979 it was renamed Wiremakers Ltd
In 1985 the company became a full-owned subsidiary of Fletcher Challenge Ltd after purchase of 12.5% from Pacific Steel Ltd. [2]
The company ceased to exist in 1989 when it was merged with other steel sector companies to form Wiremakers Ltd. [3]
