The Winstone Roofing Tile Co Ltd was established in 1920 in Tauramarui.

The three o'Reilly brothers, Frank, Jim and Jack O'Reilly had established a a business in 1915 making dry pressed brick and roofing tiles.Winstone Ltd had become involved in the company but and after a disastrous fire which seriously damaged the the Tauramarnui works the o'Reilly Bros went into liquidation.

The company was re-formed under the title of Winstones' Roofing Tile WWorks Ltd in 1920.

In 1924 the production of Marseilles roofing tiles began.

In 1932 the works closed as a result of the economic recession.

In 1934 the works were reopened.

In 1948 new works were opened at Plimmerton with the intent that Plimmerton would supply the Southern regions and Taumarunui the Northern.

Taumarunui plant remained in productiion until 1959, when it was permantley closed down because of the age of the palnt, and the high cost of transporting the finished product to the principal regions of population growth.

At Plimmerton the production of roofing tiles ceased in 1950, bricks, field tiles, and sewer pipes were manufactured.

In 1955 roofing tiles were again manufactured.

In 1964 Winstones' Roofing Tile Works Ltd changed its name to Winstones' Clay Products Ltd.

In 1960 Huntley Brick and Fireclay Company was acquired and became a subsidiary of Winstone Ltd. The name was changed to Huntly Brick Co Ltd.
