Hardlie Bros (Northland) Ltd 1960-1979
In 1903 brothers Jim and Ted Hardie formed a partnership as general carriers, coal merchants and quarry operators, and in 1925 Hardie Brothers Limited was registered as a private company.
In 1946 the Hardie Bros Ltd was listed a pulic company on the stock exchange. Over the next decade the company extended its operations to include merchandising outlets.
In 1960 Winstone Ltd acquired Hardie Bros Ltd and it was re-registered as a private company.
In 1968 a further expansion move was made when the assets and staff of Whangarei Transport Ltd, another Winstone subsidiary in Northland, were transferred to Hardie Brothers and the company's named changed to Hardie Bros (Northland) Ltd.
In 1979 the company's name was changed to Winstone (Northland) Ltd.
