History
Pabco Products (NZ) Ltd was registered in 1941 with a capital of 10,000 pounds and negotiations with the Parrafine Co of San Fransisco were concluded in 1941 for 50 percent ownership by Fletcher Holdings Ltd. The company manufactured roll roofings, saturated felt, bitumastic paints and mastics (the 'Malthoid' lines).

In 1947 Fletcher Holdings Ltd acquired the remaining interest of the Parrafine companies of San Fransisco in Pabco Products Ltd. Part of the conditions for sale was a name change & accordingly the company was renamed Duroid Products (NZ) Ltd. The company was situated in Onehunga on the site of the first iron & steel works in Auckland. During 1950 the factory was modernised with new machinery as a result of a fire that practically destroyed the plant. The base material in Duroid products is a felt made from either rag or asbestos fibre, both imported from England, the bitumen from Trinidad & the talcum from Australia.

In 1954 Fletcher Holdings Ltd reorganised and Duroid Products (NZ) Ltd became part of Fletcher Industries Ltd.

By 1959 the product range also included aluminium foil insulation papers marketed under the name Durafoil which was aluminium coated material used to insulate buildings. In 1963 the company moved to a new site in Penrose. As part of the merger reorganisation Duroid (NZ) Ltd became part of the Manufacturing and Merchandising Sector. Duroid Products (NZ) had a name change to Fletcher Duroid in 1982.

The group restructured in 1983 and Fletcher Duroid came under the Building Materials Sector.

The export market was 20 percent of Fletcher Duroid's market in 1984. In 1985 the company upgraded the plant in a million dollar investment, a new product was launched called 'Antiblaze' a fire retardant reflective insulation.

The company was renamed Duroid Ltd in 1990.

In 1990 Duroid published 'The Healthy House', a guide to insulation, ventilation and moisture control in domestic households.

On the 30 March 1996 Fletcher Challenge Ltd reorganised into four divisions; Duroid Ltd became part of the building products sector within the Fletcher Challenge Building Division.

1996 Duroid Ltd merged with Winstone Wallboards Ltd.
