Blythes Ltd was established in 1872.
In December 1967, Wright Stephenson & Co. Ltd completed its takeover of Blythes Ltd., a company with stores in Napier and Dannevirke. It traded almost exclusively in drapery lines and the business was integrated with Wright Stephenson & Co. Ltd department stores upon takeover. Mr Pollock, Sales Manager of Blythes in Napier, took over management of the Dannevirke store and Mrs M.F. Conroy, formerly Manager of Wright Stephenson & Co. Ltd's Blenheim store became Manager of Blythes Ltd in Napier.
In 1968 Blythes Ltd changed its name to Wright Stephenson & Co. Ltd.
