In May 1974 Winstone Ltd acquired the interests of the Dimond Group of companies. The Wellington based Dimond organisation was a major New Zealand process manufacturer of roll-formed products in galvanised steel and aluminium. The company also designed, manufactured and exported machine tools.

Beginning in 1965 Dimond started roll forming the popular 'Dimondek' long run roofing. It then expanded to manufacture wall cladding and accessories, Hi-Bond' steel floor systems, steel studding, purlins and high way guard rail, and the promotion of nelson stud welding technique.

The Dimond Group continued to function as a wholly independent identity in the Winstone Group.

In the wake of the merger between Winstone Ltd and Fletcher Challenge Ltd in 1988 Fletcher Brownbuilt and Dimond Industries merged to form Fletcher Dimond and was part of the Fletcher Steel Industries Sector.

In 1992 Fletcher Dimond chnanged its name to Dimond Industries Ltd

Dimond is New Zealand's largest manufacturer of steel roofing, cladding, structural and rainwater goods producing an extensive range of products in each of these categories

In 2010 Dimond Industries Ltd has 12 sales centres from Whangarei to Dunedin
