The Vulcan Steel Company was formed to provide continuing support to Fletcher Construction Company. The company was incorporated on May 9 1926.

On April 1 1954 the name of the Vulcan Steel Construction Company Limited was changed to The Fletcher Steel and Engineering Companies Ltd. The company was a wholly owned subsidiary of Fletcher Holdings Limited and was the amalgamation of five companies
