British Columbia Forest Products Ltd (BCFP) was formed in 1946, initially as a logging and sawmilling company.

In 1987 it had over 7,000 employees and operations in Canada and the USA. Its operations included:
Newsprint - produced solely at the Crofton mill on Vancouver Island The mill had 3 newsprint machines with an annual capacity of 436,000 tonnes. Market kraft pulp - produced at two wholly owned locations, Crofton and MacKenzie mills, and at 2 further locations operated by associated companies. Lightweight coated paper - BCFP wholly owned the Blandin Paper Company which operated 4 paper machines at Grand Rapids, Minnesota in the USA. Interior lumber - the company owned and operated six sawmills at MacKenzie (3), Williams Lake and Boston Bar in British Columbia and Grande Cache in Alberta. A further two sawmills at MacKenzie were owned by an associate Finlay Forest Industries Ltd with a 42.7% interest held by BCFP. Coast lumber - BCFP owned sawmills at four locations (including Hammond), plus a leased facility in the Vancouver region. Oriented Strand Board and Plywood - the company produced OSB and plywood at Blandin and at New Westminster in British Columbia. Forest ownership and tenure - BCFP owned 90,000 hectares of land in British Columbia, 461,400 hectares under tree farm licence in British Columbia and 53,000 hectares of land in Minnesota. It conducted logging operations from camps on Vancouver Island, British Columbia and Alberta.

In 1985, key associate companies were:
Donohue St Felicien (45% owned) which operated a pulp mill and 4 sawmills in Quebec; Finlay Forest Industries Ltd (42.7% owned), which was acquired in 1979 and operated a refiner groundwood mill and two sawmills at MacKenzie and Western Forest Products (19.4% owned) which was involved in logging.[1]

British Columbia Forest Products was acquired by Fletcher Challenge Ltd in 1987

In 1988, Don Gray was appointed Vice President Planning and Development.[2]

In 1989, BCFP's name was changed to Fletcher Challenge Canada Ltd and it assumed management of Crown Forest Industries on a fee basis.[3]
