In 1869 the twin brothers, Richard & Edward Tingey formed a partnership as painters and decorators, located in Wanganui.
The company was incorporated in 1904 by which time the company's head office was located in Wellington. The company became well known as specialists in paint, wallpaper and glass.
For the next 103 years the Chairmanship of the company was held by the founders or their direct descendents.
In 1972 the company merged with Odlins Ltd and trading continued under the name Tingey's Ltd
In 1985 as a result of the acquisition of Odlins Ltd by Winstone Ltd the company ceased to operate
