History
In 1975 Winstone Ltd commenced investigating the possibilities of utilising the industrial wood resources avaialable fron the New Zealand Forest service at Karioi State Forest.

In 1976 Winstone Ltd and Korean company Chonju Paper submitted a joint proposal to the NZ Governemnt for the utilisation of Karioi No III sale. The proposal was for the establishment of a thermo-mechanical pulp mill capable of producing 68,000 tonnes per annun of unbleached TMP for the international pulp market.

In 1977 the project was approved by the NZ Governemnt and in mid February construction commenced. Trials commenced at the end of 1978 and the first shipment of pulp would be in the first quarter of 1979

In 1986 the shares held by Chonju Paper Manufacturing Ltd were acquired by Winstone Ltd. The company was renamed Winstone Pulp Industries Ltd
