In 1996 the re-organisation of Fletcher Challenge Ordinary Division, created three new targeted shares Fletcher Challenge Building, Fletcher Challenge Paper, Fletcher Challenge Energy.
Fletcher Challenge Paper Share represented the Fletcher Challenge groups global pulp and paper assets and its Canadian wood-products and forestry business

1996 Malaysian Newsprint Industries acquisition

1997 Fletcher Challenge acquisitions included: Australian Newsprint Mills (ANM) (remaining 50%)

In 1997 Fletcher Challenge divestments included Donside Mill, Aberdeen, Scotland Blandin Paper Company, USA

1998 Change in ownership of Chilean assets. Fletcher Challenge Forests divesting its 51% share in Forestal Bio Bio and Fletcher Challenge Paper increasing its share of Papeles Bio Bio to 100%.

UK Paper was divested by Fletcher Challenge Paper

2000 On July 30 the Paper Division was divested to Norske Skogindustrier, ASA, a Norwegian paper company.
