Tasman Forestry Ltd: 1994 These two 'biscuits' cut from the butt logs of two radiata pine trees, show the differences in growth and timber quality, resulting from the combination of genetic improvement and modified management techniques. Both are cut from 21 year old trees. The smaller section is taken from unimproved stock grown at a high stocking per hectare, typical of a regime aimed at producing framing timber. The larger biscuit has a diameter of 51 centimetres and comes from a pruned tree grown under an intensively managed clearwood regime
