Description
This series consists of historical photographs of horse and early motorised transport used by Winstone Ltd. The series includes the clearing, felling and removal of Kauri trees from the bush, included are workmen and bullock teams, steam trains and horse teams hauling logs, 'raupo' whares. The 'bush' photographs are unidentified, some are dated (1913). Also included are items depicting horse drawn haulage used in the early years of the twentieth century. Motorised vehicles includes early model trucks, some hauling logs, some shots of vehicle fleet lined up for inspection. The series includes 'the last coal delivery' in Auckland in 1964 - various photographs taken in Queen St, Auckland, of the Winstone Ltd parade celebrating the last delivery by horse and wagon. Many of the photographs have featured in Winstone Ltd publications; Winstone News (in-house magazine) and The First Century (centennial publication), both of which may add further information regarding the photographs. The photographs are of significant value in recording the story of the early haulage transport in New Zealand.
